Grit, the Child
Fathers genetic predisposition
unnatural displays
sexual affection
innocence puddles in the corner
eyes bruised closed
clothed in shame
till shadows came
cocked and locked
unlocked
entry point
exit slightly larger
exchange of dollars
mother goes to child
shadows slip away
____________________
Grit, Socialite
Rubbed grit raw
Sweat sting, beads and rolls
Oppressive lack of light
Life snatched from shadows
leaving the superficial, sheep-like,
huddling in neon blight
Floodwater, alcoholic creep
Inhibitions secede
making midnight royalty
from meek daylight nobodies
Flies, legs stuck
in sticky ointment
pick themselves free
_______________________
Grit
A shower away from another day
that promises nothing better
than the last forty years.
No sign of opportunity,
just the gloomy remnants
of last nights one night stand
strewn about the room.
I wash her off of me
as she leaves with my
hundred dollars
not bothering to say goodbye,
thanks, I love you...
